Show Your Spirit With Alpha Epsilon Phi Merchandise

On October 24, 1909 Alpha Epsilon Phi was founded at Barnard College in New York by seven Jewish women. The founders of Alpha Epsilon Phi are Helen Phillips, Ida Beck, Rose Gerstein, Augustina "Tina" Hess, Lee Reiss, Rose Salmowitz and Stella Strauss. These women decided to form a sorority where women of all backgrounds, religions, interests and beliefs would be welcomed as members. The Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority was created to foster lifelong sisterhood, friendship, academics, social involvement and community service. Helen Phillips has been credited with the birth of friendship more than the other founders because it is said that she was persistent; she had no siblings and no mother so she wanted a sisterly bond that would last a lifetime.

Alpha Epsilon Phi has grown over the years into a nationwide sorority that is active in community and charity services. Sisters can be seen wearing Alpha Epsilon Phi sweatshirts, hats, T-shirts, pins, and apparel while contributing their time to bettering their communities. The Alpha Epsilon Phi sorority has been active in philanthropic efforts and helping people for almost one hundred years.

One of Alpha Epsilon Phi’s major charity focuses is The Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation. This foundation was founded by Elizabeth Glaser who was a member of Alpha Epsilon Phi. The foundation was created in 1988 just a short time after Elizabeth Glaser found out that she and her two children were infected with the AIDS virus by a blood transfusion. This foundation aims to educate people on the issues concerning children with AIDS and also gives money towards AIDS research. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been raised by Alpha Epsilon Phi since the foundation was created.

Alpha Epsilon Phi also supports The Chaim Sheba Medical Center. This hospital in Tel-Hashomer, Israel, was the first in that region to give medical care to all who need it, regardless of race, class or religious beliefs. The mission of this hospital is so close to the mission of Alpha Epsilon Phi that it was a perfect fit for their charitable donations.

Alpha Epsilon Phi’s official colors are green and white. On college campuses all over the nation these colors can be seen as members proudly wear their Alpha Epsilon Phi flip flops, bracelets, rings, and jewelry. At formal events the colors are also proudly displayed via Alpha Epsilon Phi party favors, glasses, and other merchandise. During rush these colors are also important, when students pledge Alpha Epsilon Phi in hopes of becoming a member. Alpha Epsilon Phi hoody sweatshirts, pins, hats, and clothing are worn by pledges to show their loyalty to the sorority.

Once pledges are accepted into Alpha Epsilon Phi there is an induction ceremony to make them full sisters. Pledges take their oath to uphold and live by the values of Alpha Epsilon Phi as new members of a respected sisterhood. Alpha Epsilon Phi may give new members gifts like blankets, pins, and other merchandise. Members remember their induction day as the special moment in their lives when they became part of something worthy and lasting.
