Founded in 1906 on December 4 at Cornell University, Alpha Phi Alpha was the first intercollegiate Greek-letter organization established for African-Americans and has set the example for all black Greek-letter organizations that would follow. Since the organization’s founding, this fraternity has spread throughout the world and today has more than 680 chapters in the United States, Caribbean, Bermuda, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Alpha Phi Alpha is also known for heading up several service programs that have gained international attention, including the Martin Luther King Jr. National Memorial and the World Policy Council. This Greek organization is also deeply involved with the March of Dimes, Head Start, Boy Scouts of America, and Big Brothers Big Sisters of America.
