Delta Chi Merchandise and Information
Brothers Honor History and Tradition by Wearing Delta Chi Merchandise The first official chapter of Delta Chi was started at Cornell University on October 13, 1890. The fraternity had existed since the Spring of 1890, but there were no official chapters until October because of the founders need to agree on the details. At the time there was only one law fraternity at Cornell and it ruled the college elections. The students began to notice that members of the one and only law fraternity were in control of a large amount of the school offices and activities, and it was a tight knit group. A group of men that saw this as unreasonable began discussing plans for a new fraternity that became Delta Chi. The eleven founding fathers officially include Albert Sullard Barnes, Myron McKee Crandall, John Milton Gorham, Peter Schermerhorn Johnson, Edward Richard O’Malley, Owen Lincoln Potter, Alphonse Derwin Stillman, Thomas A. J. Sullivan, Monroe Marsh Sweetland, Thomas David Watkins, and Frederick Moore Whitney. Many members of Delta Chi have gone on to be high achievers and men of power. Past alumni include President Benjamin Harrison, Senator John Bricker, actor Kevin Costner, author Russell Nye, actor Ashton Kutcher, and many more. In 1922 Delta Chi changed to a general fraternity, which meant that students in any major, not just law, could gain membership. In 1929 Delta Chi officially banned the practice of hazing the pledges as an initiation ritual. The Delta Chi official colors are red and buff. You can see these colors represented on many different types of Delta Chi merchandise like Delta Chi T-shirts, hats, sweatshirts, and more. The flower of Delta Chi is the white carnation and can be seen adorning members at formal events. Membership in the Delta Chi fraternity is a proud accomplishment. Delta Chi members are involved in many different community service activities. When members are helping the community and neighborhoods, they can be seen wearing their Delta Chi apparel, like sweatshirts, clothing, Delta Chi hoody sweatshirts, hats, jackets, and more. Delta Chi also has Regional Leadership Conferences, Delta Chi Leadership College, and International Conventions in order to keep their members well educated and encourage growth throughout the fraternity. At these educational gatherings members are seen proudly wearing their Delta Chi jewelry, like rings, bracelets, and other merchandise. There is also the KEY Program which stands for “Keep Educating Yourself”. The goal of this program is to help all of the members of Delta Chi grow and develop as a person and a responsible member of society. One of the ways they do this is with the “Cornerstone”. This is the name they have given to the Delta Chi small red handbook that contains their values, preamble, history, chapter information, and much more. The values in the preamble of Delta Chi are that through brotherhood they will develop character, promote friendship, advance justice, and get a sound education. These goals and values are what make Delta Chi a great fraternity and strong brotherhood. All fraternity and sorority pledges know that rush is a very important part of the year. Delta Chi hats, pins, shirts, and more are worn by rush pledges to show their enthusiasm in wanting to become part of this great fraternity. Pledges officially become brothers of the fraternity at the induction ceremony. During the ceremony you can see Delta Chi party favors, and other merchandise that make the occasion more personalized. Sometimes gifts are given at the induction ceremony or other formal events that may include a Delta Chi flask, blanket, or glass.
