About Delta Sigma Theta
When 22 collegiate women at Howard University got together on January 13, 1913, a new sorority dedicated to academic excellence and service to one’s community formed. That sorority was Delta Sigma Theta and today, it celebrates a rich history of activism and advocacy, including a presence in the Women’s Suffrage March of 1913.

The Five Point Programmatic Thrust of Delta Sigma Theta is the approach that anchors each and every one of its programs. Those five points are: economic development, educational development, international awareness and involvement, physical and mental health, and political awareness and involvement.

Delta Sigma Theta’s purpose is to provide assistance and support through established community programs throughout the world. Comprised of more than 200,000 predominantly African-American women from over 900 chapters throughout the world, Delta Sigma Theta is a sorority that doesn’t do good in just one’s own community. It does good around the globe.
