Sorority Fundraiser: Maid for a Day

Sorority Fundraiser: Maid for a Day Fundraising Event

Every chapter house can use a little cleaning up, and that cleaning can be parlayed into a fun and lucrative fundraising event. As long as your sisters are willing to get a little dirty and dusty, you can raise money for your philanthropy or other cause by helping others clean up a bit.

Planning a Maid for a Day event may require one day of cleaning or several depending on the size of your Greek system. You will need to decide on how many days you will need to clean each fraternity and sorority house and how many teams of sisters you can develop. Then decide on a day or days to have your cleaning event.

Once you have your date or dates set for your event, you will then need to advertise your event and get chapters to sign up for times. Decide on how many teams you will have and how long you expect to be at each chapter. When you send out your flyers give a deadline for signing up, and let them know scheduling is on a first come, first serve basis. Be sure to give each chapter a specific person to call for scheduling and questions. You will also need to set some ground rules for cleaning as to what your sisters will clean and not clean plus areas of the houses that you will not enter. Do not forget to include the donation for your services, which will need to be over the cost of your supplies in order for you to make a profit.

While chapters are scheduling their times for your maid service, you need to focus on purchasing cleaning supplies. You will need a variety of cleaning essentials for your Maid for a Day event. Cleaning supplies are a necessity and they include: window cleaner, cleanser, sponges, paper towels, scrub brushes, mops, brooms, buckets, toilet cleaner, toilet bowl brushes, dusters, towels, vacuums, and gloves. These items should be bought and stored ahead of time. You can go to your local wholesale club to get what you need for less money.

You may also want to purchase sorority gifts and apparel for your sisters to wear during their cleaning sessions. There are a number of sorority apparel and gifts available that fit the cleaning activity like t-shirts, shorts, towels, and flip flops. If you decide that you want to order sorority apparel and gifts to wear for that day, be sure to order them at least 4 to 6 weeks prior to your cleaning event so that you can be sure you get them in time.

During the week prior to the event, you will want to let your sisters know their teams and schedules. You will also need to tell them the ground rules for cleaning. For instance, you may set a rule that they are not to clean any of the private rooms, and that their services are for public areas only. You will also want to encourage them to use gloves and wash their hands often, for sanitary reasons. Tell them which chapters they will be cleaning and how long they are expected to be at every chapter.

The day before the event, you will want to contact every chapter to remind them that your cleaning team will be arriving the next day at the scheduled time. You can contact them by visiting each chapter house or just giving them a call on the phone. Remind them of the ground rules and how long you are expected to be there.

The day of the event, have your teams arrive early wearing the standard sorority apparel and gifts that you purchased. Hand out the cleaning items and send them out to make those chapter houses shine.
