Kappa Delta sorority was founded at Longwood University in 1897 and has since developed into one of the “Farmville Four”, a group of four sororities established at Longwood. In the company of sororities like Alpha Sigma Alpha, Sigma Sigma, Sigma, and Zeta Tau Alpha, Kappa Delta has since grown to have more than 200,000 members nation-wide, in addition to 510 chartered alumnae chapters, the most of any National Panhellenic Conference group.

Kappa Delta also has the distinction of being the only sorority to become a member of the National Panhellenic Conference immediately upon petition. In addition, it became the first National Panhellenic Conference group to form partnerships with various women’s organizations that really push the power of women in leadership. Today, Kappa Delta works with such charities and causes as the Girl Scouts of the USA, Prevent Child Abuse America, Dove Campaign for Real Beauty, and the Children’s Hospital of Richmond Virginia.
